International Women’s Day 2022

International Women's Day 2022

“Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on.” - Melinda Gates

Last year you may remember we hosted an event to celebrate International Women’s Day. Held on Zoom (covid times!) with 5 amazing speakers. It was fantastic and we raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

International Women’s Day has always been very important to me as not only does the day raise money for charities and movements seeking to help forge a gender equal world but International Women’s Day events were a safe space for me starting out in business. It was a reminder that there are plenty of us out there, even in industries like mine which are quite predominantly male. The Women’s Day events that I attended were always inspiring and I’d leave feeling connected. This year’s IWD theme is #BreakTheBias encouraging everyone to call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping whether deliberate or unconscious.

For this year’s International Women’s Day the lovely Jess Troy from 3C International entered the WhatsApp group set up by Georgia Robinson from Submarine Creative (a group set up for creatives to connect and support one another). Jess had the idea to meet up: “I thought it could be a wonderful opportunity to have local female camera operators / creators collaborate and show what talent there is on island!”. Unfortunately we’re missing a few faces who couldn’t make it, but here we are, Jersey’s women in film.
